Sport TV – Ex-Premier League ref’s verdict on Son Heung-min’s ‘dive’ vs Leicester

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min should not have been booked for simulation in Sunday's 3-1 win over Leicester City  This is the view of former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher  The incident occurred in the first-half at Wembley Stadium as the South Korea international went down under a challenge from England international Harry Maguire in the area  Having appealed for a penalty, Son – to his shock – was instead booked for simulation and the decision left Mauricio Pochettino fuming with the official Michael Oliver  Replays did show that the forward had a strong claim after he was first being shoved by Ben Chilwell before Maguire appeared to catch him on the shin with a mistimed challenge  Sky Sports pundits Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp were both in agreement that Spurs should have been awarded a penalty and that view has been backed up by Gallagher who assessed the weekend's controversial incidents in the Premier League   "Incorrect decision," Gallagher said on Sky Sports

"I thought it was a penalty – it's certainly not simulation, is it?  "There is so much contact that even if you say that he initiated it, it would be very difficult I think the expected decision there for everyone was a penalty  "Later on, it would be easy to justify When James Maddison was given a penalty, for me, you either give both as penalties or both not and that's where the imbalance was for me "  Son would go on to have the last laugh as it was his injury time goal which sealed all three points for the Lilywhites to keep them within touching distance of Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race   Keep up to date with the latest Tottenham Hotspur news, features and exclusives from football london via our free WhatsApp service Text NEWS to 07776197989 and then add the number to your phone contacts book as spurs dot london (case sensitive, with spaces) to receive daily updates and breaking news from Alasdair Gold and the team on Spurs Your phone number won't be shared with any other members of the group Click here for more information on the service
