BREAKING: Leeds Bradford Airport closed after drone spotted flying near runway

Brit holidaymakers are furious as all flights at Leeds Bradford airport have been grounded  Claims have surfaced that a drone was spotted flying near the runway, causing the mass delays  One reveller wrote: "So just about to take off when drone spotted so flight stopped!!  "Guess I could be sitting on this plane for a while "    Flights are reportedly being diverted to Humberside and Manchester Airports while the incident is being dealt with  Malaga, Menorca and Alicante flights are among those affected A number of other flights have been listed as holding  A drone previously caused chaos at Gatwick just before Christmas

About 140,000 passengers were caught up in the disruption as the runway at the UK's second busiest airport was closed for 33 hours between 19 and 21 December last year        A Leeds Bradford Airport spokeswoman said they were aware of the incident and would be providing an update shortly  Extinction Rebellion, who have threatened to fly drones at airports to stop planes from taking off, distanced themselves from the incident  They confirmed: "We understand that there are reports of drones over Leeds Bradford airport and that flights are suspended To be clear, this is *not* an Extinction Rebellion action and not something we’d support  "We’re obviously deeply concerned about aviation emissions and opposed to LBA expansion – but we’d never endanger lives by putting drones near flights without warning anyone " MORE TO FOLLOW
