    (DN) NEW THIS MORNING THE RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATION IS ANNOUNCING ITS SEVENTH ROUND OF GRANTS WHICH WILL HELP RHODE ISLANDERS AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 CRISIS WITH FOOD, RENT AND OTHER EXPENSES THE FOUNDATION IS AWARDING 700-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO 23 DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS ALEXANDRA LESLIE SPOKE TO THE FOUNDATION'S PRESIDENT AND CEO AND HAS MORE DETAILS

    (AL) WITH TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT, THE COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND HAS GIVEN NONPROFITS ON THE FRONT LINE OF THE PANDEMIC $8 MILLION IN GRANTS SINCE MARCH 27 SOME RECIPIENTS INCLUDE: -THE TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH FOOD CLOSET IN SCITUATE -CONNECTING FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES IN WOONSOCKET -AND THE HOUSING HOTLINE IN NEWPORT THE AFRICAN ALLIANCE IN PROVIDENCE HAS BEEN AWARDED $40- THOUSAND DOLLARS GROUP LEADERS TELL ME THEY'VE MADE CONTACT WITH AT 142 FAMILIES IN NEED

    THE ORGANIZATION EXPECTS MORE THAN 400 PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE COVID-19 CRISIS WILL RECEIVE HELP WITH THINGS LIKE RENT, FOOD, UTILITIES AND MEDICAL EXPENSES RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATION PRESIDENT & CEO NEIL STEINBERG SAYS CCRI'S EMERGENCY STUDENT RELIEF FUND WILL ALSO GET GRANT MONEY TO HELP SUPPORT AROUND 1,000 STUDENTS THIS SUMMER "So these are students that maybe you're having a challenge getting enough food for themselves or their family, maybe they're having the challenges of other types support services that are impacting their ability to get their education even online So that's one that a lot of people don't think about" (AL) THE FUND WAS CREATED BY BOTH THE RHODE ISLAND FOUNDATION AND THE UNITED WAY OF RHODE ISLAND
